Young French star to make debut in AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

Romain Langasque

French professional Romain Langasque will make his debut in this year’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at The Heritage Golf Club as he seeks to continue his rise as one of the most exciting young players in the game.

“I am really looking forward to playing in my first AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at The Heritage Golf Club. By reputation, I know that the golf course is fantastic and I love visiting the beautiful island of Mauritius,” said Langasque.

The Frenchman adds to an increasingly strong field of young stars set to tee it up in this €1 million tri-sanctioned tournament (Sunshine Tour, European Tour and Asian Tour) from 30 November to 3 December. Rising young South Africans Brandon Stone and Dylan Frittelli are also in the field.

Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen has also confirmed his place as one of the biggest names in the 156-player tournament.

Since becoming only the third Frenchman to win The Amateur Championship at Carnoustie in 2015, Langasque continued to impress as an amateur on the highest stage in the Majors.

He went on to play in and make the cut in The Open Championship in 2015, and in the 2016 Masters Langasque was only 20 when he tied the record for the lowest back nine (31) in Masters history by an amateur, on his way to finishing tied 39th.

He turned professional shortly after the 2016 Masters and immediately made an impact on the Challenge Tour as he finished second in the first tournament of the season, the Barclays Kenya Open.

With top 10s that season, including losing a playoff for the D+D REAL Slovakia Challenge, Langasque comfortably secured his playing privileges on the European Tour for the 2017 season. He also partnered Victor Dubuisson in the 2016 World Cup of Golf in Australia and where they finished tied second behind champions Denmark.

This will be the second time in three years that The Heritage Golf Club hosts the prestigious AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
