Frittelli targets more glory in Mauritius
South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli will seek to end 2017, his most successful year as a professional, on a high when he tees it up in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at The Heritage Golf Club at Heritage Resorts this November.
Frittelli broke through with his maiden European Tour victory this year in the Lyoness Open, which carried him to a career-high of 74th on the Official World Golf Ranking. He also made his debut in the Majors when he played in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, and this week is in the field for the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
The young star will be hungry for even more success in Mauritius, where he joins Major winner Louis Oosthuizen and multiple European Tour winners George Coetzee and Brandon Stone as the leading South Africans in the field for this tri-sanctioned tournament from 30 November to 3 December.
“For me this year has been about believing I’m good enough to be one of the best in the world,” said Frittelli, who heads to Mauritius with the confidence to match a game that is clearly on the rise.
“I’ve always been patient about moving from one phase to the next in my career. The European Tour victory was recognition of keeping the faith, sticking to my process and trusting myself. That builds confidence because you know you can play and be competitive at every level in this game.”
The South African challenge is one of the strongest in the recent history of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, and also includes Jaco van Zyl who is still looking for his first European Tour victory.
The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is tri-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour, European Tour and Asian Tour and has this year been expanded to include a field of 156 professionals competing for the €1 million in prize money.
The tournament also has a new week on the European Tour calendar and is the second counting event of the 2018 Race to Dubai.
The Heritage Golf Club will host the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open for the second time in three years, with Coetzee winning the inaugural title here in 2015.
